Publishing a book of photos
Posted by kraabel on February 10, 2005 6:56 PM

Over the past few days I have been sorting, re-sorting and then sorting again. I've been going over nearly 10,000 photos taken over the past 3 years of travels. When you take that many photos you get some really great shots, but you also end up with some puzzlers that have you scratching your head.

I'm going to try and self-publih a book of my favorite photos. Sounds like a simple idea, right? It's not. I'm a Web person to the core and learning the tricks it takes to put something on print is far more than I had anticipated. I think I have a good start, but I'm afraid the outcome might not turn out exactly how I want it to.

I was inspired to put together this book after picking up a copy of Wanderlust, written by Troy M. Litten. It's an amazing set of photos and scans from his various travels. It reminded me of why I took photos in the begining, so that I could share with others.

I'm not sure how many I'll print. They will probably be about $20.00 each to print and bind. Which, thanks to advances in print on demand services is far lower than when I had originally thought of publishing my own book.

Send me a note if you want to be one of the first to get a limited-edition Unreal Travels Photo Book. The first set are one me, but only if you ask nicely.

Cheers!

Good luck with your book - sounds like a great idea,
and a great title, too.

If I'm not too late, I'd love to apply for that first set... Being an avid travel book collector, I would like to see it and perhaps write a short review about it.

Best wishes,
