05 Dec 2006 - Lima, Peru

Just got back from a nice meal in the city. It's not the best place in the world toe explore, but an interesting experience. Lima is no different than NYC or any other large city -- including the prices for meals and taxi service. The flight leaves very very late tonight, which means I'll be able to get some sleep on the way home. I'm looking forward to it. Home that is.

04 Dec 2006 - Machu Picchu, Peru

Just finished the second day at Machu Picchu by hiking up to the top of a mountain. What better way to ensure that every last bit of energy was drained from my body. The rest of the trip is easy. We take the train back today at four o´clock to Cusco, do some shopping and then it is off to Lima for the flight home. That means I will need to re-focus on other things like work and side-projects. Oh ... and the holidays.

03 Dec 2006 - Aguas Caliente, Peru

Just got back from the first day at Machu Picchu. I´m a little tired because we had to get up at four o´clock in order to get our tickets at the train station. Due to some very pushy Peruvian tour operators, there were only about 4 legitimate tickets sold to travelers that showed up in person. It made me mad and rather disappointed that PeruRail wouldn´t recognize this problem and do something to please the real customers. That aside, the train ride was wonderful and Machu Picchu lived up to her billing. Photos to follow.

01 Dec 06 - Rurre, Bolivia

There is a strike today in Bolivia. Transportation is stopped, food is stopped, tours are stopped. We took the last flight out today, which was operated by the Bolivian military. While the strike might only be a day long, there was already a 4 day backlog of flights coming out of Rurre and most of the roads were washed out.
